Rules and Procedures For English Students

Your enrolment at LIFE Education Center shows you agree to follow the following procedures and rules:

Financial

  1. Students must pay the full amount of the course fees as specified in the course details by the second class they attend. If the student has not paid by the second class, they will not be allowed to enter the class until they have paid.
  2. Course fees once paid are non-refundable.
  3. Course materials should be purchased before the start of a course. The price of these books is in addition to the course fees.
  4. Course fees are for a session of classes, which runs 2 months. This will include 8 weeks of classes, and the cost remains the same regardless of the number of weeks.

Academic

  1. Students should join the level that will maximize their learning, either Low or High Beginning, Intermediate, or Advanced. Assessment of level is done through a written placement test and a placement interview. If a student believes they have been placed in an incorrect level, they may ask to transfer to the level which they feel is more appropriate for them. This transfer will have to be approved by the teachers involved, and the management’s decision will be final.
  2. A student is expected to attend every class and must inform the Institute front desk if they are unable to come for classes. Absence without information for 6 class days will result in the student being unenrolled from the course, and the fees will not be refunded. If a student later wishes to re-join a class after such an absence he/she will need to reenrol and pay the full fees remaining if they want to continue studying.
  3. Students must have a minimum of 60% attendance to receive an end of course report. All visa students must have a minimum of 80% attendance.
  4. Students must have a minimum of 80% attendance and be promoted to the next level in order to receive a Certificate of Completion. They will also receive the end of course report.
  5. Students should be punctual for all classes. Those who are more than 10 minutes late for class will be counted as absent. Students who are late many times will forfeit their ability to get a certificate of completion or an end of course report if they are not able to achieve 80% or a 60% attendance scores respectively, as explained in paragraphs 3 and 4 above. A student who misses half the class or more by leaving early will be marked absent for that class.
  6. Students being absent for a class will not have that class made up and will be expected to catch up with what they missed from others in the class.
  7. A substitute teacher will be arranged by the Institute when possible if a teacher is absent for a class.
  8. Teachers are assigned to classes by the Institute, and students will not be able to choose the teachers for their classes.
  9. Graduation from one level to the next will depend on the overall performance; evaluation results; and the recommendation of the teacher. Sometimes repeating a class or going to a lower level class (rather than advancing a level) may be the best option for a student to improve his/her English. To pass a level, the student must fulfill the minimum requirements/benchmarks for that level.
  10. Doing homework is vital to improving language ability. It is a necessary complement to classwork. Homework should be done faithfully.

Administrative

  1. All students must fill out a registration form completely in order to register. Rs.500 is the fee for registration and testing. A placement test must be taken by all new students at the time of registration. Those who cannot take a placement test will be placed in the Low Beginning class for English, and Phase 1 for Hindi and Dari. The registration and testing are valid for 3 months. Students who do not immediately enroll in a class, leave, and then later return to LIFE Education Center after 3 months must reregister and take the placement test again. The registration fee does not guarantee a seat in a specific class.
  2. If the number of students in a class is below five, then LIFE Education Center reserves the right to merge it with another class of the same level or postpone/cancel it, giving appropriate refunds to students.
  3. LIFE Education Center observes a few public holidays on which classes will not be held. These will be announced well in advance.
  4. While on LIFE Education Center premises, students should help maintain an atmosphere conducive to learning. Using mobile phones in the class is disruptive and mobiles should be kept on silent or switched off. Only discussion necessary for learning should be held and talking that distracts other students, or is insulting and inappropriate should be avoided.
  5. If you have any suggestions to improve our program, please feel free to share them with the Director.

Exposure to English outside of class

  1. Students will want to expose themselves as much as possible to English outside of class. From time to time there are free functions and events such as book clubs, Changing your Life discussions, etc. which students are encouraged to attend. There are a few graded readers for students to check out from the receptionist. A refundable deposit of Rs. 500 is necessary in order to avail this facility.

Once this plan has been submitted and payment has been made, it cannot be modified. Course fees once paid are non-refundable. Only planned days of absence according to this system will be chargeable. Other days missed by students are chargeable.
